Welcome to St James Catholic College...

St James Catholic College is a small regional co-educational K-10 College,

50 minutes drive south of Hobart.

We offer in partnership with our parents and community and within a Catholic environment,

a contemporary education combined with  a family atmosphere and traditional values.

We offer a challenging, individually focused and supportive educational environment, with a warm, welcoming community feel. We focus on building relationships and partnerships within the school, parish and wider community.

Please feel free to browse through our site and contact us if we can assist you in any further inquiries.

Our Philosophy of Teaching and Learning

"The school must begin from the principle that its educational program is intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person." (The Catholic School n.55)

Education in our school therefore covers the full dimensions of being human: academic, social, spiritual, physical and emotional. The building and sustaining of constructive relationships within thelearning community are the key to engaging learners.

Our Connections

St James Catholic Church shares the same campus as the school and close links exist between the College and the Parish of the Huon Valley. St James Catholic College is part of the systemic system of schools governed by Catholic Education Tasmania and mandated by the Charter of the Archbishop of Hobart. The College is supported in its work by a College Board, an active Parents and Friends Association, and through positive links with the local Aboriginal community.

From The Principal

St James Catholic College actively engages in the evangelising mission of the Catholic Church.  It operates within the Diocese of the Catholic Church in Tasmania and under the auspices of its Catholic Education Office. At St James we recognise the dynamic nature of the educational endeavour from Kindergarten to Year 10.  In partnership with families, we work towards realising the spiritual, academic, emotional, social and physical potential of the child.

"The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom, and the favour of God was upon him" Luke 2.40

We believe in and strongly promote the value of each individual child and we work to provide opportunities for them to ‘Let Their Light Shine’.

I welcome your interest in our College and invite you to learn more by requesting a Prospectus, visiting our grounds and speaking with myself or other members of the College Community.
